morais.id // privacy

What happens to your information when you visit this site, in plain words. The short answer: very little, and we don't sell or share it.

Effective 2026-10-01 Draft // pending review

The short version

  • No cookies, no ads, no social media trackers.
  • No forms or accounts on this site. We never ask for your name or email here.
  • Our web server logs each request, including your IP address, and keeps those logs for 52 days.
  • Visitor statistics come from Farol, our own analytics server. It does not store IP addresses.
  • Fonts and scripts load from our own servers, never from Google or other outside companies.
  • We never sell your data.

Who runs this site

morais.id is run by RogerLe.com (DBA), operated by Roger Morais. In data protection terms, RogerLe.com is the controller: it decides why and how the information described on this page is processed.

You can reach us about anything on this page at privacy@rogerle.com.

02

What we collect

This site has no accounts, no forms and no cookies. Three things involve information about you.

Server logs

Each time your browser asks for a page, image or file, our web server writes one line to its access log:

IP address
the network address your request came from
Date and time
when the request arrived
Request
the page or file asked for
Result
the status code and the number of bytes sent
Referrer
the page that linked here, if your browser shares it
User agent
your browser and operating system, as your browser describes them

If something goes wrong while answering a request, the server's error log can record the same kind of details. We use the logs to keep the site secure and working: to spot attacks and abuse, and to find and fix errors. We don't use them to profile visitors.

Visitor statistics (Farol)

To see which pages people actually use, we run Farol, our own installation of Umami, an open-source analytics tool. It runs on a server we manage, not on an outside service. When a page loads, a small script from farol.rogerle.com reports:

  • the page you visited and the page that sent you here
  • your browser, operating system, device type and screen size
  • your browser's language setting
  • an approximate location (country, and where available region and city), worked out from your IP address when you visit

Farol does not set cookies and does not store your IP address. To count unique visitors, it combines your IP address and browser details with the site's identifier and a value that changes at least once a month, and keeps only the resulting code. That code is different for each of our websites and changes with that value, so it can't follow you from site to site or from month to month.

If you'd rather not be counted, block farol.rogerle.com in your browser or content blocker. The site works the same without it.

Your theme choice

The site remembers whether you use the dark or the light theme by saving one word, dark or light, in your browser's local storage under the name morais_theme. It stays on your device, is never sent to us, and disappears when you clear this site's data in your browser.

03

Why we use it

If you are in the European Union, the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, data protection law (the GDPR, or the UK GDPR) asks for a legal basis for each use of personal data. Ours is legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR):

  • Server logs: keeping the site secure, available and working.
  • Visitor statistics: understanding, in aggregate, how the site is used, so we can improve it.

We have weighed these interests against your privacy. The data is limited, it isn't used to identify or profile you, and it isn't sold or shared. You can object at any time; see Your rights.

04

Where it is stored

We manage our servers ourselves. The hosting companies provide the machines and the network, and every connection to the site and to Farol is encrypted (HTTPS).

Web server and logs
United States
Visitor statistics
Finland, European Union
Encrypted backups
United States

Because the web server is in the United States, a visit from anywhere else means your request, and the log line it creates, is processed in the United States.

05

How long we keep it

  • Server logs: 52 days. A new log starts every day, and each one is deleted after 52 days.
  • Backups: the nightly, encrypted backups of the web server include these logs. Backups are deleted on a rolling schedule, so a copy of a log can outlive the 52 days until its backup is deleted.
  • Visitor statistics: kept while we run this site, so we can compare over time. They contain no IP addresses.
  • Theme choice: on your device, until you clear it.
06

Who we share it with

We don't sell, rent or trade personal data, and we don't share it with advertisers or data brokers.

We will disclose information if the law requires it, for example under a court order.

07

Your rights

If the GDPR applies to you, you have the right to:

  • ask what personal data we hold about you, and get a copy
  • have it corrected or deleted
  • ask us to limit how we use it, or object to our use of it (because we rely on legitimate interest, you can object at any time)
  • complain to a data protection authority, usually the one where you live or work. The European Data Protection Board lists them; in the United Kingdom it is the ICO.

Wherever you live, you can ask us what we hold about you and ask us to delete it.

In practice: send us your IP address and roughly when you visited, and we will look for matching records in the server logs and in the statistics, and delete them. Write to privacy@rogerle.com; we reply within one month.

09

Children

This site is not aimed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information about them.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the site handles information, we will update this page and the effective date at the top.
